In my own words:
Nearly everything you own can be taken away from you by some means. What you learn and master cannot be taken; it is yours to cherish for life.
Furthermore, we are never fully finished learning. There is always more knowledge to be gained, and the ways in which learning can improve the quality of our lives cannot be quantified; it is infinite.
If the lessons I offer interest you or your child, then tutoring is a worthwhile investment in your future.
In my own words:
I know a great deal that other tutors do not. Other tutors know a great deal that I do not.
For this reason, I require an initial consultation (please visit the Compensation tab) to determine if you and I, or your child and I, are a good fit.
I will not, however, teach to a test, as many do, though I realize the necessity given the requirements of the public education system.
I teach to inspire curiosity, to clarify areas of difficulty, to improve lives in actionable, measureable ways, and to create fellow lifelong learners, leaders, and teachers.
I teach because I love it.
In my own words:
I have always been a passionate educator, perhaps because my parents were both public school teachers. However, the systems of education have changed so drastically over the years that they are now nearly completely broken. Those systems are also breaking teachers' minds, bodies, and spirits at alarming rates.
In educating my heart, I learned that I could no longer work within a system that required the amount of self-sacrifice that public education asks of teachers.
I still love teaching and sharing my knowledge & wisdom with others while continuing to educate myself, so a tutoring company for teens and adults presented a uniquely fulfilling opportunity to reinvent myself.
Maya Buchman, Lake-Lehman Class of 2022:
I had the privilege of having Megan as both my English teacher and Key Club advisor. High school comes with many ups and downs, but I always knew that when I walked into Megan's classroom, I would have the opportunity to share my thoughts, be heard, and learn in an environment where I felt genuinely supported and cared for. Beyond the classroom, I had the opportunity to get to know her through Key Club, where she served as my advisor. This allowed me to see firsthand her dedication to her students and her commitment to helping them succeed.
What sets Megan apart is her personable nature and her ability to build meaningful relationships with her students. She is approachable, trustworthy, and always willing to listen, making it easy to feel comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance. I highly recommend her tutoring services to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated educator.
Reagan Hynick, parent of former student:
I would highly recommend Megan. She is an excellent educator. She made my son a better person.
Ethan Krzysik, Lake-Lehman Class of 2018:
You were one of the best teachers and always so encouraging and outgoing. Both in the classroom and outside with the groups you oversaw like Key Club. And it was always fun too, I remember class never felt like it was going by slow. I know you’ll do amazing!
Christina Olson Elston, Lake-Lehman Class of 2016:
I had Megan for several years in middle school and high school (between 7th and 12th grade) for a couple different classes but all of them were language arts related. She was the greatest teacher I had. I struggled with some things in the classes (mainly essays) but she helped me realize that as long as I try my best and I am proud of the end result then that's all that matters. Thank you Megan for being one of the biggest inspirations in my school career.
Shannon McLaughlin, parent of former students:
I give Megan the highest praise as an educator! She taught my 2 youngest daughters and not only did she inspire them to work to their highest potential, she helped them develop skills needed to be good humans! As a mom, who is also a Special Educator, I found her teaching to be unlike many others. For her it's not just a job...it's a work of heart!
Olivia Buchman, Lake-Lehman Class of 2024:
Megan does an amazing job of making students feel comfortable to learn, try new things, and make mistakes. My favorite experience with her is that I always felt like I should laugh and have fun in the face of whatever challenge I was trying to overcome.
Halle Bennett, Lake-Lehman Class of 2015:
I got my first ever perfect paper in your class. It’s been 15 years and the lesson I learned from one paper still gets applied to my everyday life: If an essay can have some typos and still be a 100, I can have some some flaws and still be 100 too. Seems silly but that October Sky essay still affects how I view myself, how I taught my students and how I raise my son. You should know that paper meant more to me than any other assignment I did in school.
Emma Simmonette, Lake-Lehman Class of 2020:
I highly recommend Megan for your tutoring needs. I know her as a former teacher as well as personally, and she is such a wonderful human being. Very encouraging, supportive and easy to talk to. With her welcoming and down to earth personality, Megan will make you feel right at home.
