“The cure for boredom is curiosity.
There is no cure for curiosity.”
- Dorothy Parker
Lessons will be grouped by reading assignment, with book selections determining the number of meetings (no fewer than six each).
Students/families are responsible for providing the assigned book, and it is essential that the correct edition is purchased so that everyone can be on the same page.
The maximum number of students for any given reading selection will be six.
Students may only join the club in between reading selections so that they are not starting behind their peers.
The number of lessons will be announced at the same time as the chosen book, so that families can plan accordingly.
Students may opt to leave the club after a book has been finished; they are not required to continue on for the next selection. They may rejoin at a later date.
Students should expect group discussions, enrichment activities, presentation opportunities, and when possible, connections to other art mediums - such as film - will be explored.
Reading assignments will be given between weekly lessons, and it is imperative that students stay up to date on the reading. Failure to do so may result in being prohibited from continuing in PTBC after the current selection is finished.
Reading selections will include, but are not limited to:
The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom
Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchmen by Harper Lee
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare
Othello by William Shakespeare
